Deaf Child

Alexis Carney '16

Alexis Larinda Carney (also known as Lexie) is a hard of hearing musician, freelance marketer, and business manager. As an independent musician with no private funding or management, she initially lacked direction, struggling from financial stress. The first person in her family to graduate college, she put together a team to promote artistic sustainability.
Her mission is to make music, bring people together, and support communities. The name Deaf Child comes from her complete loss of hearing in her left ear since birth. Her auditory experiences have influenced her career from performing to promoting. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Loyola University New Orleans in Music Industry Studies and Business Administration. Lexie's songwriting inspiration is Johnny Cash and Regina Spektor having a baby with bass. Her music explores future folk, electro blues, grass-hop.
