Attend the All-Athletic Alumni Reunion and the annual Golf Tournament

The second weekend in April is filled with athletic events that celebrate and support Loyola’s athletes. On Thursday, April 11, the Alumni Association and Wolf Pack Athletics celebrates maroon and gold athletes at the All-Athletic Alumni Reunion.

Do you remember the Field House? How about when Emmett Toppino broke the world record in the 400 meters at the Olympics? Do you remember great coaches like Tad Gormley, Big Jim McCafferty, Rags Scheuermann, Jack Orsley, and Don Moreau? Or when the women’s basketball team won the Conference Championships? From the ‘30s to the ‘70s, athletics played a large role at Loyola. Athletes created memories and friendships on and off the field. After a hiatus, athletics was back at Loyola in the 1990s. From the ‘90s to the present, athletes are again creating lifelong memories and friendships. The All-Athletic Alumni Reunion will give you the chance to relive some of your favorite athletic memories, as well as have the chance to make some new ones. Not only will the reunion feature friends and teammates from all eras, pictures and memorabilia will be on display to view and bring back memories as well.

“Loyola has 100 years of rich history. A significant part of this history has been Wolf Pack Athletics. We look forward to celebrating these memories with all our athletic alumni at our reunion event on April 11,” said Mike Giorlando, Director of Athletics and Wellness and Head Men’s Basketball Coach.

Ramon Vargas ’09, Staff Writer for NOLA.com-The Times Picayune and former sports editor for The Maroon, will discuss the history of athletics at Loyola.

Come reminisce with other athletes at the All-Athletic Alumni Reunion. The reunion is taking place on Thursday, April 11, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the St. Charles Room of the Danna Student Center. The cost is $30 per person or $50 per couple, and includes heavy hors d’oeuvres and open bar.

Also that weekend, on Friday, April 12, the Wolf Pack Athletics Golf Tournament celebrates its 16th year. The Golf Tournament will begin with lunch at noon at the Audubon Golf Course. The tournament, sponsored by Calco Travel, Inc., will also feature food on the course from local restaurants including Acme Oyster House, Vincent’s, Pepperoni’s, and Koz’s.

“We’re looking forward to hosting our annual golf tournament this year. We’re excited to be back at Audubon Golf Course. It should be another wonderful day on the course benefitting your favorite Wolf Pack teams,” said Director of Athletic and Wellness and Head Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Giorlando.

The Wolf Pack Athletics Golf Tournament was established 16 years ago as a way for Loyola alumni, friends, and fans to gather and celebrate Wolf Pack Athletics, while supporting their favorite team. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the men and women of the maroon and gold.

The Golf Tournament costs $150 for an individual player or $675 for a foursome and hole sponsorship. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as longest drive and closest to the hole.
