Chapter Events

Each chapter is encouraged to plan at least one educational or cultural program, one day of service, preferably participation in Wolves on the Prowl, and one social program each year.

Community Service

Wolves on the Prowl

Wolves on the Prowl is Loyola’s national day of community service, where alumni from around the country host community service events in their respective cities, while at the same time students and alumni in New Orleans are participating in community service projects across the city.  This is a powerful testament to the quality of a Jesuit education and a tangible manifestation of the connection that we all share as Loyola alumni.

Wolves on the Prowl is typically held the first Saturday of November. Chapters in Boston, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, St. Louis, New York City, and Tampa participated in 2008.

Other Programs
  • Our Houston and Chicago Chapters raise funds for student scholarships
  • Our Washington, D.C. Chapter has an annual canned food drive to help the hungry in their community.

Spiritual Programming

Even though Ignatian spirituality and the Jesuit values are rooted in the Christian – Catholic tradition, it transcends all religions and beliefs. As our lives get more and more busy, it becomes more important to take time and reflect upon our lives and the world around us.

Jesuit Values
  • a sense of giftedness of creation
  • each person has value and dignity
  • we are all called to human excellence
  • the whole person should be developed
  • each of us must be action-oriented, agents of change, and men and women with and for others.

Faculty Programming

A top priority with University President Kevin Wildes, Ph.D., S.J., is faculty programming. The Alumni Association will be hosting lectures and readings by Loyola faculty in our chapter cities.

Social Events

Mardi Gras Brunches and Parties

Mardi Gras parties are on of the most popular and well-attended chapter events. These parties combine all of the very best of New Orleans: food, music, and carnival revelry.

The Office of Alumni Relations provides beads, decorations, and king cakes. Parties are scheduled either on Fat Tuesday or during other weekends in February. Chapter Mardi Gras events are held on the Northshore and in Austin, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington, D.C., Raleigh, and Chicago

Crawfish Boils and Spring Events

Crawfish boils are another great social event that combines elements that are unique to New Orleans. They are very popular events as it is perhaps the only way that alumni outside New Orleans can enjoy hot mudbugs. Crawfish season begins in April and lasts until June. Crawfish boils are held in Orlando, Tampa, Houston, Atlanta, Dallas, Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, and Las Vegas.

Pre-Game Parties

Loyola basketball, baseball, and volleyball games are classic reasons for organizing an alumni event. The Office of Alumni Relations staff will distribute Wolfpack athletic schedules as soon as they are available.

We also build Loyola alumni events around local sports teams. Alumni chapters gather to watch the Giants in San Francisco, the Cubs in Chicago, the Dodgers in Los Angeles, and the Texas Rangers in Dallas

Game Watching Parties

Loyola Wolfpack, New Orleans Hornets, or New Orleans Saints game viewings are easy and inexpensive gatherings. Select a sports bar in your city with a cable or satellite dish, and Alumni Relations staff will send out a mailing informing everyone in your area of the location of the viewing and the times and dates of the games. Be sure to secure tables in advance and check with your local television affiliate to secure what affiliate is showing the games.

Brunches and Cocktail Receptions

Last year, Alumni Chapters enjoyed cocktail receptions in Raleigh, Miami, Austin, Las Vegas, and Philadelphia. Several chapters, including Raleigh and Washington, D.C. also hosted Christmas cocktail receptions. We hosted a Sunday brunch in Houston, attended a fall festival in New England, and a wine tasting in Dallas.

Admitted Student Receptions and Student Send-offs

This is an excellent way for the chapters to support the Office of Admissions. We start the year off in August with Student Send-offs in Chicago and Washington, D.C., and working with the Office of Admissions, we co-hosted an Admitted Student Reception in Los Angeles.
